Re-vamped Patio Table

Hi....  My name is Amy and I am really new at this whole blogging thing.  I find it really interesting to be honest.  I love reading other people's blogs and I hope to bring some kind of inspiraion on this blog.  Its all fun for me.  I am in the same boat as pobably you, trying to update my home on a modeste budget while raising kids.  Trying to make it kid friendly.  Thats when all creativity comes into play.  As I share my ideas, I would love to hear all your great ideas as well and be able to share with everyone.

Lets get started....

This happened to us last year.  I had posted it on facebook so it may be something my friends have already seen.  Last June our patio unbrella broke, it was a couple of years old.  The material had ripped beyond fixing.  I bought another unbrealla at the Real Canadian Superstore on a no tax event.  Unfortunately, a gust of wind picked up the unbrella and shattered the glass insert in our patio table.  We had also bought this set a couple of years ago from The Real Canadian Superstore and I just love it.  Ths is what it looked like...

After a few tears and cleaning up glass.  It just wasn't in our budget this summer to purchase another patio set.

I really like the patio sets that look like they have planks of wood across. We started by taking the weaving alround the edge of the table but we didn't touch the legs.  We left them alone.  Our daughter Charlie helped us with this part.  This is what we ended up with.

David then cut a peice of pine 62 1/2 by 43 inches.  I love the look of pine especially the nots in the wood.  But, you need to be careful as it is a very soft wood. He put 3 planks underneath, the opposite way, to make it sturdy.  We didn't want another gust of wind get caught in the unbrealla again.  David then cut groves in the wood every 3 1/2 inches to make it look like the wooded planks I was talking about.  I love this effect.

He then drilled a hole in the middle for the unbrella.

We then had an afternoon date at Rona Cashway deciding on stain.  We agreed upon the colour Crown Diamond English Oak.  We bought an exterior wood stain that was semi-transparent.

Can't wait to go shopping for some table mats and cutlery.  Maybe a flower pot or too..
