Our DIY Magnetic Board

I don't know about you but one thing at our house that I can't seem to keep under control is our paper clutter.  Everyday my two youngest come home with more paper and notices from school.  Not only is there school stuff to keep track of, but their extra curricular activities as well.  Even in the summer months we keep very very busy....

We just bought a new fridge,  our old one had kicked the bucket.  We bought a stainless steel one to match the rest of the appliances.  The one thing we noticed with our old fridge, the magnets on the stainless steel left nasty scratches on the front of the fridge,  big no no,  it never looked pretty.

I have tried a cork board in the past but where we kept the cork board, it was a high traffic area.  The papers kept falling down with the thumb tack and I didn't want one of the kids to step on a tack.  So lets make it magnetic just like the fridge.   At least with the magnetic they won't hurt their little toes.

I started with these supplies:

 - Martha Stewart magnetic paint effect.

 - Martha Stewart satin multi-surface acrylic craft paint

 - Paint brush

 - frame

I then painted the board inside the frame with the magnetic paint.  I gave it at least 3 coats and let it dry an hour in between.  After the last coat the instructions say to let the magnetic paint dry for at least 24 hours before applying the colour, but I couldn't wait that long..  Its like watching paint dry!!

I then painted the board the satin colour.  It goes with our colour scheme in the kitchen.

After it completely dried I put it back in the frame.

I used to hang all my photos with nails and a hammer.  I don't do that anymore.  I am always changing my mind where I want things and holes all over the walls is so time consuming to fill them all in.  I use the Command strips by 3M I can hang pictures up and it won't damage the wall when I take it off.  I love their products.  This is what I ended up with.

I also hung my DIY wall pockets which you can find a tutorial on how to make them at Iheart Organizing blog which you can go to here.  I hung these up so that extra forms from school like permission forms or information about school trips can go there.

My grandma had a magnet in her home on her fridge, before she passed away.  I was so excited to get it hanging back up. It reminds me of her and I start humming a Hillsong worship song in the kitchen when ever I see it.  Do you know the song?
