Its been a long time since I posted seems like its been forever. Its been a real learning curve for me these last couple of weeks. You have probably seen my blog take shape and change. Lots of decision making that's for sure. Its been a work in progress and I don't think I am done yet. But that's the way life is a "work in progress".
June 2 2015 I started painting my deck. I thought with the nice weather my deck needed a face lift. As you can see from the photos below, it was looking a little drab. I've been trying to work on it a little each day, painting all those spindles, I lost count how many there were. We had built an extension on our deck last year so it will reach the pool. I don't want to get ahead of myself but I have so many ideas for our new deck area.
We have a small hardware store in Waterford called Riddoch Lumber. I purchased exterior, semi-gloss paint with primer already in it. The colour I chose was "White Charm". As I mentioned before, part of our deck was an extension to the existing deck. The older part had been stained before and weathered much longer, it needed two coats of paint. The newer part of the deck needed about three. I wondered half way through if buying primer separately would have been cheaper. The exterior paint with primer already in it was $49.99 a gallon and I needed two.
I taped all around where the posts join to the deck boards. I used a paint brush and small roller. You need allot of time and patience for this part, you wouldn't want the paint to run away and leave any drip marks.
David even let me play with his power tools. I needed to take the gate off to paint it.
Well this is what we ended up with....

| Ta Da!!! Much better! |
It took along time but well worth it. My grandmother even came over one afternoon and helped me paint some of the banisters. I was on one side of the banister and she was on the other chatting away. Those are the memories you don't forget. It was such a simple thing but memorable.
Another memorable moment, while painting, was when my youngest daughter, Charlotte came home from school last month and saw me painting the deck. She said to me "Mom, I know what your favourite colour is, WHITE!" She is probably right. I seem to be wanting to paint everything white these days.

I also decided the paint the risers on the stairs going into the pool. I am going to stain the treads when I decide on the stain.
I'm down to two colours and I just can't make my mind up. I promise it won't take that long to decide on deck stain. I promise I won't take that much time to post it. I don't think painting the deck boards will take as long.....
